Small Healing Business Startup Kit

The following is the first page of the startup kit. Each item on this home page has a corresponding page in the kit chock full of information.

Congratulations on taking your first steps towards getting your healing business up and running! This kit is comprised of information, hints and tips that I’ve gathered along the way in starting my own business and coaching clients through starting theirs.

The kit is really easy to use. All you have to do is follow the steps on this page from top to bottom. By the end, you’ll have a really solid foundation to build your business upon.

You can always go back to a particular page by going to the table of contents and finding the page or worksheet that you need.

    Ground Work

  1. First, create a folder in My Documents called ‘business’. Go ahead… I’ll wait. :) You can always rename, reorganize or move it later. For now, this will be where you save all of the files from this kit. The .doc files in this kit are write protected so that you don’t accidentally save over your original. This keeps the file pristine in case you need to start over or use it again.
  2. Use the brainstorm helper (.doc) to brainstorm what your website and/or business will look and feel like. This is key to putting together an effective ‘brand’, which is what you use to entice prospective customers. When you fill out the brainstorm helper, really brainstorm. Don’t think about each thing you put down so much as just allow the thoughts and ideas to flow whether or not they make sense. You can always go back later and make cuts and make it make sense. Save your changed file to My Documents/business.
  3. Fill out the and the business site worksheet (.doc) to futher flesh out your ideas. Whether a website was part of your orginal plan or not, the reality is that these days, you have to have one. You don’t have to be the one to actually create the website but you do have to know what you want. This worksheet walks you through fleshing out your vision. Save your changed file to My Documents/business.
  4. Use the business plan template (.doc) to put together your business plan. Your business plan, if nothing else, forces you to really think about HOW you will do business. Although it may seem like a no brainer, it really isnt. Filling this out will save you tons of time later. This business plan can be modified any time you modify your business. You would also use your business plan to get funding… so make sure it is complete. Save your changed file to My Documents/business.
  5. read the cs of marketing. Use it to weed through your website worksheet and brainstorm worksheet and pick out what works. Get rid of anything that doesnt work. You should now have a really good idea of what you want things to look and ‘feel’ like.
  6. Getting Set Up

  7. Read ‘business licensing’ and follow the appropriate steps to acquire business licenses
  8. Before you run out and buy office equipment or sign leases, consider these options!
  9. Read the free Software primer. Select, download and install the appropriate software
  10. ‘your website’ is a step by step through from creating your website to getting it submitted to search engines
  11. What to charge, how to charge and when to charge for healing
  12. Working with Clients

  13. Before you see your first client, give some thought to the type of records you want or need to keep. Read and follow the instructions in the business forms helper to create professional, complete business forms for your business.
  14. Read the tip about ‘client folders’ and consider using this process
  15. Budget your time and Energy. Working from home is great because you have the freedom to set your own schedule… BUT.. that also leads to a really quick burnout, if you aren’t careful. Here is how to set about doing that.
  16. Finally, now that you’ve got everything up and running, ‘get business’ is a list of a few ideas to drum up some more business.
