How To Use Primal Sound to Balance Self

We use voice inflection to carry subtle meaning that words don’t always encompass. Our favorite musicians have years of voice training and tons of studio editing to support the polished sound that comes out over the radio waves. We have ‘inside voices’ and ‘outside voices’.

Our voice is our power. It is what lets our thoughts and feelings come out. Words are a double edged device… both serving to give our thoughts definition that others can understand, and limiting our thoughts to what words can convey.

Sometimes, what’s going on in our mind and body can’t be conveyed in words or doesn’t need to be – it simply needs to come out. In this context, primal sound is the release of sound in a non-verbal, uncontrolled way. This exercise will give you a sense of mental and emotional balance.

  1. Sit or stand comfortably.
  2. Close your eyes and breathe deeply.
  3. Open your eyes, open your mouth and push out a sound until you feel it in the pit of your stomach and in your chest. It doesnt matter what it sounds like.
  4. Do it again, putting every ounce of what you feel into the noise that comes out.
  5. Continue to repeat this until the pitch or vibration changes naturally to something more peaceful, calm and relaxed.
