The idea of energy, as defined by us (not the energy referred to by the sciences) having a vibration is a myth. There is no such thing as vibrating energy. Remember, branches of science define energy in their own way and we have a definition for the stuff we are calling energy for our own use. Often, in new age theory, there is a very illogical (conveniently fuzzy) bridge between the two in an attempt to prove some sort of vibrational theory in the metaphysical definition of energy.

In our physical world, atoms are always vibrating a little. When something is heated, that vibration speeds up, which causes it’s temperature to rise. However, the vibration of particles generates energy. In other words, energy is the side effect or product of vibration of particles – not the ‘stuff’ that is actually vibrating. The ‘substance’ we are referring to as energy, is sub atomic – not atomic. It’s made of particles smaller than an atom. It is in the space between atoms. So even if we were to attempt to use a more physical definition of energy, it would be the atoms vibrating, not the stuff between them.

Although there are scientific theories like String Theory that theorizes that subatomic stuff (what makes up our description of energy) is made up of vibrating ‘strings’. Those strings would be what makes up the subatomic stuff which makes up energy. So even if String Theory is correct, it still would not mean that energy has a vibration any more than the chair you’re sitting on vibrates because the atoms that make up it’s materials vibrate. It is also possible that, wherever this theory originated from, vibration was at some point confused with frequency. There has been some work done in proving that the frequency of the electromagnetic field around a person can increase with conscious focus.

The frequency of an electromagnetic field is actually the measurement of the wavelengths upon which the comprising photons travel. The frequency of the field can be related to energy using Planck’s equation, E = h nu, but in this instance, still, energy does not have a frequency but rather energy is mathematically equivalent to the frequency of the photons that make up the electromagnetic field.

And yes, that is a small distinction – but it is a critical factor in how new age theory often ‘proves’ it’s validity. In new age theory, there is also often a very conveniently fuzzy bridge between energy and ‘spirit’ and consciousness so it is often the next ‘leap’ that somehow one can raise their over all ‘rate of vibration’ (presumably of their soul) by performing conscious acts of some sort or another.

There is no scientific basis for the idea that as someone’s ‘rate of vibration’ increases, they become more energetically potent in any way or that you can ‘raise your rate of vibration’ by being spiritually aware or active in any way or that your ‘rate of vibration’ has any bearing whatsoever on ANYTHING. Further, there is evidence to the contrary.

Although there is nothing wrong with theorizing about how something might work, when it contradicts natural law, it’s better to exercise good judgment and logical faculties.
