How Reiki Works

It is a commonly known fact that the human body and its organs have bio magnetic fields surrounding them. The hands of a Reiki healer will appear to have a much stronger magnetic field surrounding them then a non-healer and can be measured at 0.0002 gauss – 1000 times stronger then any other field emitted from the body.

It is also a fact that the hands of a Reiki practitioner channeling Reiki will grow hot to the touch and the temperature can be definitively measured.

However, although Reiki can be measured by temperature and EM fields, science falls short when it comes to explaining WHY Reiki works. It is common that the metaphysical or occult communities will know that something works without scientific proof � only to have it explained scientifically ten or even hundreds of years later.

I often tell the story that when I was in middle school, we were taught that the states of matter were solid, liquid and gas. By the time I was in high school, we were being taught that the states of matter were solid, liquid, gas and plasma. Plasma was officially named in the early 1900s, was studied later and wasn�t taught as common knowledge until much later. Long before it was taught in high school text books, however, occultists hypothesize about the existence of plasma or �ether� or �energy� by the definition that we will use in this course.

There are many pseudo-scientific hypothesis about how Reiki works; the most general being that Reiki works on a subatomic level. For the purposes of this explanation, we will define the following words as :

Using these definitions, although reiki energy is technically physical � simply less dense, when we use the term �physical� throughout this text, it will be to denote the world around us which we can taste, touch, see, smell or hear.

Within the subatomic world, there are particles that, among other things, make up the space between atoms. This is �Universal Energy�. This force or fabric is what gives thought substance and a means to move forward. The subatomic world is without time or space constraints. It saturates and gives structure and form to the physical world without it�s self being physical.

Think of it as the fabric upon which all other �things� are suspended. The particles of your body are suspended in this common fabric just as the particles of this page are, as are your thoughts and feelings, as is divinity, in whatever form you prefer. This theory of everything being suspended in the same �fabric� is where the idea comes from that god or �spirit is in everything� or that we are �all one�. Although those axioms are a bit simplified, they are, at their core referring to this premise upon which Reiki works.

So if our thoughts are suspended on the same fabric as everything else is and our brain controls our thoughts, we should then, theoretically be able to use our brain to affect change in our thoughts and consequentially, to affect change in something else in that fabric � in the case of Reiki, Universal Energy.

Energy healing is the practice of using our thoughts, which exist suspended in this Universal Energy, outside of electrical impulses of the brain, to direct that Subatomic energy to manifest physically when and where we direct.

Dis-ease, dis-harmony, un-wellness is believed to occur due to disruptions or inhibitions in the flow of vital life force or energy within our bodies. Many believe that the specific energy-pattern which we call Reiki, emanating from the practitioner’s hands, simply assists the body to correct and re-balance the flow of our life force, thus returning us to a state of wellness and generally enhancing the quality of our experience of our life.

The ailments of the Client are not deemed a result of Negative energy � rather an energy released as a headache, pains such as a back ache, or similar. It is the end result of blockages/issues within our own chakra/energy system.

This hypothesis supports the following known traits of Reiki :

• Reiki never runs out and does not leave the practitioner drained.
• Reiki can be used along with any other healing modality or belief system. It does not depend upon belief and does not fail on someone who does not believe.
• Anyone or anything can be attuned and/or treated with Reiki
• Reiki flow is the same from both hands
• Reiki automatically comes when it is needed and goes to the part of the body where it is needed most.
• Reiki makes the practitioners hands feel hot to the touch

Although not much is known about how it works from a scientific standpoint, there are a wealth of studies that show that it DOES work. For further study, I recommend looking into the work of Dr. Daniel J. Benor.
