Annual Samhain (Halloween) Ritual

Spirits and ghosts are the reason for the season! Halloween is the modern cultural observance of Samhain, the celebration of the final harvest, the time of year when everything has died, will die or is dying. The tradition of children’s trick or treating comes from a practice of wearing masks to scare the evil spirits away because it is believed that this is the time of the year when the ‘veil’ is thinnest – allowing us to easily communicate with the underworld and them with us.

Symbolically, by immersing ourselves in the darkness or death of this observance, we come away with more understanding of them – and in contrast, more understanding of the light, the meaning of life and the world around us.

Join me in celebrating death! Not rebirth, not life after death… death. In this quasi-traditional witchcraft ritual (is ANY ritual I do EVER traditional, really? :) , I will call in crone and reaper deities. I will open a passage to the ‘underworld’ and for a span of about a half hour, we will be between life and death… and intense experience not to be missed. Cakes and Ale will be celebrated ‘dumb supper’ style.

* Do not wear Halloween costumes – do wear something appropriate for mourning or shadow work… and DEFINITELY something you won’t get hot in
* Shoes, phones, watches and other electronics will be left outside the circle
* No skyclad or nudity
* Alcoholic substitute available for cakes and ale
* Bring a photo or object for a person you wish to contact or remember. This will be returned to you at the end of the ritual
* No Pagan Standard Time. Might run long.

Bring a friend and get $5 off/back. Friend must RSVP ahead of time as well.

* THE * North County Samhain ritual of the year. :)
